Canon 10.1-megapixel CMOS sensor
At the heart of the new EOS 1000D is it's a newly designed 10.1 Megapixel APS-C size Canon CMOS sensor. This new sensor employs large microlens over each pixel to reduce noise and enhance sensitivity up to ISO 1600, which is ideal for high-quality images in low light. The APS-C size sensor retains a 1.6x focal length conversion factor compared to full-frame digital image sensors or 35mm film format cameras.
DIGIC III Image Processor
If the CMOS sensor is the heart of the camera, then Canon's DIGIC III processor is the brain. The EOS 1000D also features a DIGIC III image processor, as used in Canon's professional DSLR models. The latest generation of Canon's proprietary image processing engine, DIGIC III technology ensures that the fine details and natural colors of the images are optimally recorded. The DIGIC III processor also manages the camera's efficient energy consumption and high-speed signal processing performance.
Auto Lighting Optimizer
EOS 1000D is equipped with Canon's Auto Lighting Optimizer technology, which corrects image's brightness and contrast automatically. This valuable optional feature now works in all exposure modes and utilizes Face Detection technology to correct underexposure with backlit faces.
High-speed 7-point wide AF system
For shots where fast focusing is needed, the EOS 1000D features a 7-point wide area Auto Focus system, capable of locking onto a subject in a fraction of a second. A f/5.6 cross-type central focus point continues to operate effectively even when used in lower-light and lower-contrast setting. This cross-type focus point works with all EF and EF-S Lenses ranging from 10mm to 800mm, achieving great flexibility.
Live View mode with two AF mode
Available for the first time on a Canon consumer digital SLR, Live View mode makes it easier to shoot from awkward angles, such as ground-level macro shots or when shooting from a tripod. The image from the Live View mode is displayed as a smooth, 30fps video feed on the 2.5-inch LCD screen. A grid line display and live histogram can be selected to help with shot composition and exposure. While focusing, the photographer can zoom in on specific details with up to 10x magnification of the image displayed on the LCD screen.

Two types of auto focus are available: Quick AF flips the camera mirror momentarily to engage the AF sensor; Live AF uses the image contrast data to focus automatically during Live View without lowering the reflex mirror - a method familiar to anyone upgrading from a compact digital camera.

For studio environments, remote Live View lets the photographer compose, adjust settings and capture the shot from a PC using the supplied EOS Utility software.
3fps high speed continuous shooting
The EOS 1000D is capable of continuously capturing 3 frames per second where the number of consecutive shots in a burst is only limited by the capacity of the memory card in the camera in large/fine JPEG mode or 1.5 frames per second up to 5 frames in RAW mode. The finer focusing capabilities of the EOS 1000D together with its impressive image burst rate will help photo enthusiasts preserve family milestones or capture split second sports action at just the right moment
EOS Integrated Cleaning System
The EOS Integrated Cleaning System found in the EOS 1000D combats sensor dust in two important ways: Self-Cleaning Sensor Unit and Dust Delete Data. A Self-Cleaning Sensor Unit uses ultrasonic vibrations to shake dust from the low-pass filter for a period of approximately one second after each start up and shut down. For instant shooting after power up, this feature is disabled immediately the shutter release is pressed. นอกจากนี้ แคCanon has also developed the "Dust Delete Data" system, which can map the position of visible dust on the sensor and append to the images. Bright 2.5-inch, 230,000-dot LCD

The new screen also features an extra 30% brightness with seven brightness settings for easy viewing under a variety of shooting conditions and a wide viewing perspective in all directions.
Better ergonomics and other improvements
The EOS 1000D is designed to make photography a fluid experience for photographers of all levels and experience. Housed in a compact body that weighs less than 450 grams, the camera features an improved grip design that provides a natural, ergonomic fit with the user's hands. The menu system inherited from professional EOS cameras uses a simplified tab structure that does away with scrolling. It includes a user-defined My Menu tab for instant access to frequently used settings.

The EOS 1000D utilizes popular SD and SDHC memory cards including those with capacities higher than 2GB, making it the perfect upgrade for users already equipped with SD cards from point-and-shoot model cameras. Additionally, the EOS 1000D camera utilizes Canon's new high-capacity LP-E5 lithium ion battery pack, which provides 50% more capacity than earlier models with virtually no increase in size or weight.
Full Software in a Package
• The EOS 1000D is supplied with a comprehensive software suite that provides everything the photograph needs to manage and process images. This includes Digital Photo Professional (DPP), a powerful RAW converter that provides complete RAW image processing control. DPP also integrates with camera features such as Dust Delete Data and Picture Styles. The supplied Picture Style Editor software can be used to create custom Picture Styles for fine control over colour display. The camera also comes with EOS Utility, ZoomBrowser/ImageBrowser and PhotoStitch for various photographic needs.
Various accessories
• Eyepiece Extender EP-EX15 II Eyepiece extender dedicated for EOS 1000D /450D, it extends the eyepiece 15mm from the camera and reduces viewfinder magnification by 30%. Useful for eyeglasses wearer and others to keep the tip of the nose from touching the camera body.
• Battery Grip BG-E5Battery grip BG-E5 dedicated for the EOS 1000D /450D allows easier vertical shooting control. BG-E5 can accommodates two LP-E5 batteries for high volume shooting with battery life extended to 1,200 shots. Size-AA batteries can also be used when coupled with the supplied battery magazine BGM-E5.
